IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND TERMS
New regulations state that you must see a doctor within 14 days of your auto accident or your financial recovery may be limited to $2,500 PIP.
PIP (Personal Injury Protection)/No Fault and Property Damage –
the basic insurance that you must have to legally drive in Florida. PIP is paid regardless of who is at fault in an accident, and includes $10,000 minus any deductible you have chosen on your policy. From this $10,000 medical benefits are paid at 80%; lost wages are also paid under PIP at 60%. Property Damage on the basic policy is $10,000, and covers the damage to the person’s car if you are at fault.
Bodily Injury (BI) –
is coverage you maintain for another person’s injuries if you are at fault in an accident. It is not mandatory to carry BI in Florida; however, if you are in an accident and the other person who causes an accident does not carry BI then you will be limited to your PIP and there will be no “recovery” or “settlement” from the other person. To avoid this from happening, it is highly recommended that you carry UM coverage – (Uninsured or Under Insured coverage). UM coverage is for your benefit; if the person who causes the accident does not have BI or does not have enough BI to cover your injuries, then you can look to your UM coverage for additional settlement money.
comprehension coverage pays for any type of damage to your car other than accident-related damage, i.e., theft, fire, etc. Collision coverage pays for the damage to your car if the other person does not have property damage insurance.
